Looking Back at WAV Architects' Office Transformation

In 2008, a new home for an expanding architectural firm was accomplished throughout the conversion of an existing commercial building into an 8,000 s.f. design studio office. Our office houses four distinct areas of focus. Our ‘first impression’ zone with conference and hospitality areas, our Interiors Studio with a design library and resource references, a design studio, and/or ‘back of house’ area, which includes a 20 seat training area for meeting and archives.

The building was completely re-skinned, replacing the soft masonite siding with 1” stucco, and replacing the receded, hipped roof with a prominent, parapeted roof. The re-fenestration introduced large windows around the entire perimeter of the daylit design studio. The exterior inspirations came from the simple 1920s white, stucco-modern buildings in the area. Interior inspirations came from an amalgam of residential work and desire to re-invigorate the firm’s neo-traditional roots. The firm occupied the building during the renovation.
